Abstract

A comparative study of three theoretical models for predicting the thermal behavior of a tilted three lobe profile bore bearing is presented. It is based on a simple heat balance, an integrated energy equation, and a rigorous thermohydrodynamic approach. For a given eccentricity ratio the models predict load carrying capacities that are in close agreement. The remaining parameters of torque reaction and effective and maximum film temperature do not illustrate such complete agreement. An integrated model generally gives the highest maximum film temperature since it does not account for heat removal from the film by conduction through the bearing components.
