Abstract

Thermal Integral Micro-Generation (TIMGen) systems on the scale of a few Watts are proposed for use with solar or fuel-derived heat. The optics, the thermal receiver, and several generation technologies (MEMS Stirling and Brayton engines, thermal photovoltaic, thermoelectric) are discussed. Estimates of system performance show the potential for efficiency competitive with photovoltaic cells and large-scale thermal plants. TIMGen plants are modular, scalable, highly redundant, and potentially low-cost via mass production.
