A weak formulation of the simplified continuity and energy equations of lubrication coupled to the equilibrium and energy equations of thermoelastoplasticity is presented. A simultaneous numerical solution is proposed which is characterized by a consistent linearization of the lubrication equations, an implicit algorithm for the determination of the plastic region, and a finite element discretization for both the fluid and the solid.
